In a landmark move to promote environmental sustainability and campus beautification, the Alumni Association of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has unveiled plans to plant 100,000 trees across the University campus between July and August, 2025. Each tree would carry the name of its donor, creating a living monument to alumni impact and commitment to the University’s green legacy.

This was revealed during a strategic meeting of the Alumni Venture Committee held today, May 10, 2025, at the Centre of Excellence in Agricultural Development and Sustainable Environment (CEADESE), Conference Room, which also focused on evaluating progress and charting future directions for its key initiatives in Farm Services, Hospitality, Transportation, and Real Estate.

Declaring the meeting open, the Global President of the Alumni Association, Mr. Bolaji Gbadamosi commended the Committee’s dedication and reaffirmed the importance of sustained collaboration with the University. He stressed that the Alumni Venture remained a crucial platform for harnessing alumni expertise and resources to support FUNAAB’s developmental goals.

Providing an update on the Venture’s activities, the Director I of the Alumni Venture, Mr. Abiodun Ajayi, disclosed that the Farm Services arm has expanded beyond food crop production to now include perennial crops and livestock. This, he noted, was made possible through productive engagements with the University Management.

Mr. Ajayi also announced the commencement of a 13-Room hospitality project at the Alumni Centre and plans to rehabilitate a bus recently acquired from the University to boost transportation services. A comprehensive transportation strategy is expected to be finalised by June to improve mobility for both staff and students.

In the area of Real Estate, the Committee explored the development of student hostels and was actively seeking partnerships with sponsors and foundations. Discussions were also ongoing regarding the takeover and revitalisation of underperforming University ventures for enhanced efficiency and profitability.

The meeting also revisited the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Alumni Association and the University, ensuring that all outlined commitments remained on track. Deliberations extended to infrastructural improvements, enhanced campus security, effective land utilisation, and measures to curb illegal logging.

Mr. Gbadamosi expressed heartfelt appreciation to the University Management and the entire alumni body for their unwavering support, stressing that the Venture would continue to be a shining example of alumni-led innovation and service delivery in Nigeria’s tertiary education system.

The meeting concluded with interactive discussions and renewed pledges of commitment, as the alumni community collectively reaffirmed its resolve to foster a more dynamic and progressive future for FUNAAB.
