Prof. Sakiru Akinbode, a distinguished scholar in Development Economics from the Department of Economics, who is currently the Deputy Dean of the College of Entrepreneurial and Development Studies (COLENDS), has been appointed Director of the Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies (CENTS).
According to a statement by the Ag. Head, Directorate of Public Relations, Mr. Olasunkanmi Olajide, the appointment was approved by the Vice-Chancellor in recognition of Prof. Akinbode’s proven academic leadership capacity and his potential to contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of the University.
The statement further disclosed that an Appointment Letter signed by the Registrar, Dr. Titus Adeniyi, indicated that the tenure of the appointment is for a period of three (3) years, effective from January 2, 2026, to January 1, 2029.
Prof. Akinbode holds a B.Agric., M.Agric., and a PhD in Agricultural Economics from FUNAAB. He also earned MSc and PhD Degrees in pure Economics from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State.
An accomplished academic, Prof. Akinbode has participated in numerous local and international conferences and workshops, presenting scholarly research across diverse platforms. He is a member of several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Economic Society (NES), the Nigerian Association of Agricultural Economists (NAAE), and the International Society for Development and Sustainability (ISDS), Japan.
Beyond academia, Prof. Akinbode has served as a consultant to international organisations, government ministries, departments and agencies, as well as private sector institutions. His areas of expertise include policy analysis, social and environmental impact assessments, business feasibility studies, and field surveys.
Within FUNAAB, he has held several leadership and service positions, notably as Head of the Department of Economics (2018–2020), Financial Secretary of ASUU-UNAAB (2014–2018), and Internal Auditor (2018–2021), among others.
The University Administration expresses confidence that Prof. Akinbode’s wealth of experience and academic insight would further strengthen entrepreneurial training, innovation, and skills development at FUNAAB through the Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies.
