The Senate of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), at its special meeting of Thursday, January 4, 2024, elected Professor Olukayode Akinyemi as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), succeeding Prof. Christian Ikeobi upon the conclusion of his tenure.
Prof. Akinyemi who is of the Department of Physics, College of Physical Sciences (COLPHYS), is the current Director, Centre of Excellence in Agricultural Development and Sustainable Environment (CEADESE).
Prof. Akinyemi has made significant contributions in the University prior to his new appointment, serving in various capacities such as Acting Head of the Physics Department; Director, Centre for Internationalisation and Partnerships (CENIP); and Director, Directorate of Grants Management (DGM).
As the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), his responsibilities encompass a wide range of tasks, including the development, administration, and review of academic policies.
He will also be saddled with the oversight of undergraduate and postgraduate coursework, management of examinations and admissions, coordination of educational activities across different campuses, collaboration with the University’s commercial arms for strategic academic planning, and representation of the Vice-Chancellor when required.
Additionally, he will chair ad-hoc reviews delegated by the Vice-Chancellor.
Meanwhile, the appointment is subject to the approval of the Governing Council, and in the absence of the Council, the Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Food Security will serve as the approving authority.
Prof. Akinyemi is set to assume duty on January 8, 2024.
