FUNAAB Begins Empowerment of Women in Garri Processing in Ondo State

In a strategic effort to improve rural livelihoods, strengthen food security, and fulfil the third mandate of the University, the Agricultural Media Resources and Extension Centre (AMREC) of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (FMAFS), has commenced a four-day training and empowerment programme for women in Garri processing, at the Ondo Central Senatorial District.

The training, which kicked off on Tuesday, May 27, and is scheduled to conclude on Friday, May 30, 2025, is taking place in Akure, Ondo Central Senatorial District. It was facilitated by Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire, SAN, who represents the district at the National Assembly.

Implemented under Project Code: ERGP20243841, the initiative was tailored to build the capacity of women in modern cassava processing techniques, improve product quality, and promote value addition. The overarching goal was to empower women with the knowledge and tools needed to increase their earnings and contribute meaningfully to the economic development of their communities.
