In a significant step towards achieving food security and supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 2 – Zero Hunger), the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, has commissioned the renovated bakery on campus.
The bakery, a collaboration between FUNAAB and Nutrient Life Group of Companies, is set to revitalise the production of high-quality bread and pastries for the University Community and beyond. Speaking at the Commissioning Ceremony, Prof. Kehinde stressed the need for continuous production, especially on weekends, to cater to the over 4,000 students residing on campus.
To further promote the initiative, The Vice-Chancellor has directed the Environmental Unit, under the leadership of Mr. Peter Bolarinwa, to regulate the sale of bread on campus by restricting externally sourced bread and ensuring that only products from the University’s bakery are available.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Founder of Nutrient Life Group of Companies, Mr. Michael Olorode, explained that while FUNAAB still owns the bakery, it was handed over to Nutrient Life in August 2024 under a Public-Private Partnership. He assured that the bakery would maintain FUNAAB’s reputation for quality and excellence.
Mr. Olorode reiterated Nutrient Life’s mission to transform the African food system by prioritising quality over quantity. He commended Prof. Kehinde’s leadership in reviving the bakery and reaffirmed his company’s commitment to upholding the highest production standards.
The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Prof. Kola Adebayo; Director, FUNAAB Integrated Ventures (FIV), Mr. Olufisayo Amubode; Deputy Registrar II, DVC Development’s Office, Mrs. Folasade Giwa, as well as staff members of Nutrient Life Group of Companies and other members of staff of the University.
