The Governing Council, led by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdur-Rasheed Ayotunde Olabomi Odundun IV, the Aragbiji of Iragbiji Land, has paid a visit to the Literary Colossus and Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, at his Autonomous Republic of Ijegba (ARI) Forestage to fete him on his 90th Birthday celebration.
During the brief ceremony on July 17, 2024, the Pro-Chancellor stated that Prof. Wole Soyinka has made a lasting impact on history, and his life would be remembered and studied for generations to come.
Appreciating the Nobel Laureate for bequeathing FUNAAB with such a monumental edifice, the Pro-Chancellor stressed that he must be celebrated not only because he was an icon but also because he has humanity at heart.
Acknowledging the wonder of nature in the Ijegba Forestage, Oba Olabomi noted that the environment was a testament that nature and man could coexist in peace and harmony.
Responding, Prof. Soyinka appreciated the Governing Council Members and the entire University Community for taking the time to celebrate him on his birthday, adding that he was happy and elated to have so many people around him.
Commending the University for always ensuring that his environment was kept tidy and free of weeds, he appreciated the long-standing relationship with the University, desiring that it continued to grow and become more robust in the future.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of two books authored by the Aragbiji and some FUNAAB-made products to the Literary Icon, including a tour of the Ijegba Forestage.
