The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has taken another bold step in advancing renewable energy education and youth capacity development with the commencement of a One-Month Intensive Training Programme in Solar Technology for 100 students from the College of Engineering (COLENG).
The training, which began on September 22, 2025, was organised by the Directorate of Works & Services in collaboration with Messrs Eauxwell Nigeria Ltd., facilitators of the University’s 3MW Solar Plant Project awarded by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).
According to the immediate past Director, Works & Services, Engr. Olawole Akinyele, the programme was designed to equip the Engineering students with hands-on knowledge and practical skills in solar technology, positioning them for opportunities in the fast-expanding renewable energy sector.
To enhance participation and ensure convenience, the training has been divided into two batches of 50 students each. Each batch would undergo two weeks of intensive sessions, with classes scheduled in two shifts daily—Morning (9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.) and Evening (4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.)—to avoid clashes with academic activities.
The initiative not only underscores FUNAAB’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions but also reflects the determination of REA and its partners to promote capacity building among Nigerian youths.
At the end of the programme, participating students are expected to acquire both theoretical and practical competencies in solar energy systems, making them valuable contributors to Nigeria’s renewable energy future.
