The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), in collaboration with Dizengoff Nigeria, has strengthened its drive toward sustainable agricultural development through the hosting of a Farmers’ Field Day, on October 15, 2025, an event designed to showcase modern agricultural technologies and deepen the synergy between research, learning, and production.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Prof. Olawale Dairo, underscored the significance of the collaboration in advancing hands-on agricultural training and promoting innovations that enhance food security. He noted that FUNAAB’s farms remain vital platforms for experiential learning, offering students and stakeholders direct exposure to contemporary agricultural techniques and technologies.

In his remarks, Mr. Oscar Walumbe, General Manager, Agribusiness Division, Dizengoff Nigeria, reiterated the company’s commitment to knowledge exchange with farmers and institutions like FUNAAB. He explained that the Field Day was organised to provide practical, solution-oriented demonstrations on crop production, including the use of greenhouse systems, irrigation facilities, improved inputs, and training resources.
Participants were taken on a guided tour of the greenhouse, where the different species of Bell pepper were grown, and an open-field demonstration plot, where they observed different crop varieties and irrigation models in action. The event also highlighted best practices in climate-smart agriculture, record-keeping, and market-oriented production.

Mr. Walumbe encouraged both farmers and students to approach agriculture as a profitable and sustainable business venture, stressing that partnerships like the one between FUNAAB and Dizengoff were key to transforming Nigeria’s agricultural landscape.
