The Career Services and Linkages Unit (CSLU) of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), in collaboration with DOIT Services, Jobberman, and the MasterCard Foundation, recently conducted a week-long Capacity Development Workshop for female students in final or penultimate year to enhance their employability skills.

The event which ran from June 3 to June 7, 2024, was held at the Elias Bogoro Twin Lecture Theatre at 8:00 a.m. daily.

The Managing Partner, DOIT Services, Mr. Oluwatobi Awaye appreciating the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde for providing support for the Training.

DOIT Services, a Comprehensive Management Consulting Firm and Business Solutions Provider partnered with Jobberman as the official representative for MasterCard Foundation’s Young Africa Work Entrepreneurship Training for Young Women in Ogun State.

Their services included learning and development, project management, employee engagement, placement and performance management, company formation, and digital solutions.

Mr. Oluwatobi Awaye, Managing Partner of DOIT Services Nigeria, expressed his gratitude for partnering with FUNAAB to deliver the essential training.

He emphasised the importance of equipping young entrepreneurs and future business leaders with the necessary skills to thrive in the highly competitive world.

Mr. Awaye highlighted the significance of post-training support to ensure participants can effectively apply their newly acquired skills to enhance their employability and entrepreneurial capabilities in Nigeria’s challenging economic landscape.

Mr. Awaye said that the goal of the training was to empower graduates to run successful businesses, and not to rely on traditional white-collar jobs.

He expressed optimism that the training would yield significant benefits for FUNAAB students, enabling them to create job opportunities and bring positive change to their communities.

Additionally, Mr. Awaye acknowledged the instrumental role of the University’s stakeholders which facilitated the training of over 2,000 students.

During the wrapping-up of the training, the team paid a Courtesy Visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, where he commended their initiative, noting its alignment with the University’s Tripodal Mandate of Teaching, Research, and Community Services.

He highlighted the training potential to significantly benefit students as they transition into the workforce, both within Nigeria and internationally.

Prof. Kehinde expressed appreciation for the partnership with DOIT Services, MasterCard and Jobberman, even as he commended the efforts of the Student Union Government, student volunteers, and the DOIT team members, including Dr. Solomon Adebola, Mr. Mubarak Oyedele, Mrs. Victoria Akande, and Mrs. Janet Akinwale, who served as the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer.

Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive as they jointly emphasised the importance of identifying problems and providing strategic solutions, including the need for accountability and customer-focused business strategies.

They also found the training insightful, gaining valuable managerial skills and practical business principles, and they also highlighted their new understanding of leveraging social media to reach their target audience.

In the meantime, participants collectively appreciated the Vice-Chancellor and the University Management for facilitating the timely initiative.
