The University has donated a Borehole to each of the four (4) communities hosting its Community-Based Farming Scheme (COBFAS).
The beneficiaries are Odo-Aloro quarters (Odogbolu), Isaga Orile, Dake-Araromi Ode-lemo and Iwoye-Ketu.
The Boreholes, which were commissioned by the representative of the Vice Chancellor and Chairman, Committee of Deans and Directors (CODAD), Professor (Mrs.) Morenike Dipeolu was the climax of the Committee visits.
According to a release signed and issued by the Director, COBFAS, Dr. Jonathan Atungwu, the Vice-Chancellor, while commissioning the boreholes said it will boost water supply for irrigation purposes, especially the dry season farming.
CODAD had earlier visited FUNAAB’S students undergoing Farm Practical Year at COBFAS Communities, where it also had an interface with the undergraduates, in order to see for themselves the prospects and challenges of the programme and how it could be improved upon.
The Committee also paid homage to monarchs of COBFAS host communities and also interacted with members of the communities, to assess the impact of the scheme since its inception in 2010.
The Community Heads, in their separate messages commended FUNAAB’S Students for their good behaviour and harmonious relationship, describing it as a reflection of the University’s positive leadership values.
They also thanked the University Management for bringing COBFAS to their domains, requesting for concession in the areas of admission and employment of their youths, as well as citing of faculties and institutes in their areas.
Responding, the representative of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Mrs.) Dipeolu expressed appreciation to the royal fathers, Chiefs of the communities for creating enabling environment for the success of the scheme.
