The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has joined forces with the European Union and other international organisations to host a 2-Day Certificate Training Programme for Farmers and Cooperative Societies on Digital Solutions for Sustainable Agriculture to Adapt to Climate Change.
Tagged “DIGISOL PROJECT,” the training aims to empower rural farmers with digital solutions to help them navigate the challenges of climate change. The collaborative effort would also provide training for farmers in remote communities to promote sustainable agricultural practices and build their resilience.
According to the DIGISOL Coordinator in FUNAAB, Prof. Adewale Dipeolu, the event would take place at the Centre of Excellence in Agricultural Development and Sustainable Environment (CEADESE) Lecture Hall on November 12 and 13, 2024, starting at 9:00 a.m.daily. The focus of the initiative was to introduce digital solutions to farmers, helping them to improve their agricultural practices through technological advancements.
Prof. Dipeolu emphasised that the partnership signified a significant milestone in the journey towards creating a more sustainable and climate-resilient agricultural sector in Nigeria.
He further stated that by enhancing farmers’ understanding of digital solutions for sustainable agriculture, the initiative would bolster farmers’ ability to adapt to climate change and foster innovative farming techniques in rural areas, adding that by harnessing the power of technology and expertise, FUNAAB and its partners were dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of rural farmers, thereby contributing to the country’s food security, and driving sustainable economic growth.
