A Senate Luncheon, commemorating the end of the 2011/2012 Academic Session at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) took place at the International Scholars’ and Resource Centre, with the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Bandele Oyewole declaring that it was another successful academic year that deserved celebration.
Explaining the rationale behind the Luncheon, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oyewole articulated a catalogue of achievements that made it a well-deserved celebration.
According to Professor Oyewole, these include the ’A’ rating accreditation of the University, movement of the Postgraduate School and the College of Food Science and Ecology (COLFHEC) to their permanent buildings, stable academic calendar and “more importantly, we enjoy the peace of God”.
Professor Oyewole described the peaceful transition of the Vice-Chancellorship from Professor Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun to him as symbolic.
He disclosed that having inherited 25 ongoing projects from his predecessor, the priority of his administration is to complete them within a record time, adding that until he completed the inherited projects, he would not embark on new ones.
According to him, the ongoing projects are the 3,000-capacity Auditorium, which will now be used for University’s Convocation Ceremonies and other major events, the 2,500 Computer Laboratory, 2,000 Lecture Theatre Auditorium behind the Postgraduate School, the Institute for Food Security Environmental Resources and Agricultural Research (IFSERAR) Building and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)-endowed College of Management Sciences (COLMAS) Building.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed his happiness on the commencement of the use of the International Scholars’ and Resource Centre, for University functions, as well as the relocation of the Centre for Internationalization and Partnerships into the premises.
He noted that the Senate Luncheon, which in the past had taken place outside the campus, is now being hosted at the Centre.
He called on members of the Senate and the University community at large to patronize the events Centre for their programme of activities.
Professor Oyewole disclosed that the management of the International Scholars’ and Resource Centre will be advertised in the national dailies to inform members of the public on the new Hotel, and to get capable managers, to run the place.
The Vice-Chancellor thanked members of Senate, Principal Officers, Deans, Directors and members of the University community, for contributing immensely to the success of the Academic Session.
