In a strategic move aligning with the Town and Gown relationship principle and the progressive vision of the current University Management under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has officially entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ASSETRISE Limited, a reputable private organisation in Nigeria that offers real estate investment through various innovative asset investment options.
The signing ceremony took place on Thursday, May 2, 2024.
The MoU, in harmony with the Federal Government’s policy to bolster food security nationwide, was aimed at the annual cultivation of more than one million yam tubers over five harvest years, including the provision of gainful employment for the nation’s teeming youth population.
Beyond its agricultural objectives, the partnership promised extensive benefits for members of staff, students, and neighbouring communities, offering avenues for significant capacity building.
Additionally, it would provide opportunities for students to gain hands-on experience and expose them to the concept of managing agricultural ventures as a business.
Among the distinguished attendees at the signing ceremony were the Vice-Chancellor, including the Director, Directorate of Research, Innovations and Partnerships (DRIP), Prof. Mutiu Busari; Director, Directorate of University Farms (DUFARMS), Dr. Emmanuel Bankole; Mr. Lateef Solarin; the Group Managing Director (GMD) of ASSETRISE, Mr. Oluwadurotimi Ojamamoye, and the Director, Engr. Owolabi Akintunde, as well as other key stakeholders.
