With heavy hearts and deep sorrow, the University Community announces the passing of Prof. Francisca Olubukola George, a distinguished expert in Aquaculture and Fisheries Management from the Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries Management, College of Environmental Resources Management (COLERM).

Prof. George answered the final call in the early hours of yesterday, July 8, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of academic excellence, commitment to research, and unwavering mentorship to both students and colleagues alike.

A highly respected academic, Prof. George was renowned for her outstanding contributions to the field of Aquaculture and Fisheries Management, particularly in sustainable aquatic resource development and environmental conservation. She served the University in various capacities, notably as the former Director of the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES), where she mentored countless students and staff with dedication and compassion.

In his condolence message, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde stated that her passing was a profound loss to the University Community and the broader academic world, adding that she would be remembered for her excellence in teaching, groundbreaking research, and unwavering commitment to nurturing the next generation of scholars. He further extended his heartfelt condolences to her family, colleagues, students, and all who were touched by her impactful life.
