The Directorate of Health Services, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), today, February 4, 2026, organised the maiden Appplication Demonstration and Training Workshop for staff of its Medical Records Unit, aimed at strengthening capacity in Health Data Management and Analytics (HDMA) and Information Technology.
The workshop was facilitated by Mr Saliu Muhammed, Head of the Medical Records Unit, as part of ongoing efforts to modernise medical records and enhance service delivery at the University Health Services.

Speaking at the event, the Ag. Director of the Health Services, Dr. Oluseyi Anjorin, commended Mr. Muhammed for initiating the training, describing it as a significant milestone in the history of the Medical Records Unit and the Health Centre at large. He noted that the workshop, the first of its kind in the unit, would greatly improve efficiency and professionalism, and urged participants to apply the knowledge gained in their respective roles to further position the Health Services as a model facility. Dr. Anjorin also encouraged other units within the University to emulate the initiative.
In his presentation, Prof. Olaniyi Olayiwola of the Department of Statistics, FUNAAB, emphasised the importance of data management and analysis in the health sector. He noted that effective data analysis is crucial for informed decision-making and patient care, adding that inadequate data management in medical records units has contributed to health crises in many settings.
Also speaking, the Ag. Director, Directorate of Information and Communication Technology Services (DICTS), Mr. Temitope Soretire, reaffirmed the Directorate’s readiness to collaborate with the FUNAAB Health Centre in advancing health Information Technology. He congratulated the facilitator and participants on the successful organisation of the workshop.

Earlier, Mr. Saliu Muhammed explained that the training was designed in line with the World Health Organisation’s recommendation for the computerisation of medical records. He stated that the objective was to equip staff with practical skills in Healthcare Data Management and Analytics, particularly in the use of the newly automated clinical attendance and admission of HDMA system.
According to him, the training has positioned participants to demonstrate proficiency and cascade the skills to other staff involved in data management within the unit.
The workshop concluded with participants sharing experiences and insights gained during the training, followed by the presentation of certificates. An award of honour was also presented to the Head of the Medical Records Unit in recognition of his leadership and initiative.
