The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) through its Information and Communication Technology Resource Centre (ICTREC) and
BytePlus, an ICT-based firm have organised a Training designed to equip ICT and Academic staff with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively use and manage the Learning Management System (LMS) platform.
According to the Coordinator, Part-Time Degree Programme (PTDP), FUNAAB, Dr. Adeyinka Aladesida, the project was sponsored by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), as part of an initiative to bridge digital skill gaps and enhance teaching, learning and research through a hybrid model for beneficiary institutions.
Dr. Aladesida said the ICT Support Intervention was instituted to expand the role of Information and Communication Technology at beneficiary institutions to deliver quality education.
He stated further that the 2019/2020 (Merged) TETFund Intervention for ICT support fund was to provide the e-learning platform aimed to move classrooms online by enabling remote access to course delivery and materials such as notes, presentations, videos, assignments, attendance, grade access, announcements and reference materials towards achieving distance learning and teaching capabilities to the beneficiary institutions.
He noted that the e-Learning Support Training was necessary, adding that capacity development was needed to leverage the benefit of an e-learning platform.
According to him, it was required for beneficiary institutions to provide the ICT Units and other relevant staff with the essential training to adequately support and administer the platform successfully.
Dr. Aladesida revealed that the approval of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde was obtained that the intervention be deployed for the PTDP, after due consideration.
He said that with the approval, PTDP would adopt the blended learning model, also known as hybrid learning.
Meanwhile, the model combines online educational materials and opportunities for interaction with traditional place-based classroom methods.
It was expected to widen the horizon and scope of current Part-Time students and reduce the transit stress of both students and lecturers.
