The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), recently held an intensive workshop focused on its strategic plan for 2021-2025.
The event gathered key University stakeholders, including Deans, Directors, and Heads of Departments and Units.
In his Opening Remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Prof. Olukayode Akinyemi, noted the importance of the Workshop in fostering a sense of shared responsibility among participants.
He stated that the Strategic Plan was crucial for promoting innovation, enhancing decision-making, and ensuring sustainability within the University.
The Vice-Chancellor urged attendees to view the Strategic Committee as a vital team dedicated to the progress of every College, Department, and Unit within FUNAAB.
He encouraged active participation, constructive criticism, and questions, reiterating his belief that FUNAAB has the potential to become the best University globally.
In his Address, the Chairman of the Strategic Planning Committee, Prof. Jonathan Atungwu who spoke through the Chairman, the Ranking Advisory Committee (RAC), Prof. Olusegun Folorunso, said that the Strategic Plan served as a platform for reflection and evaluation.
Prof. Atungwu, also the Dean, College of Plant Science and Crop Production (COLPLANT), underscored its role as the foundation for the University’s growth and sustainability, urging participants to collaborate for enhanced institutional performance, agricultural education, and research excellence.
Presenting his paper on “Mid-Year Performance Analysis Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for 2021-2025 Strategic Planning,” Prof. Folorunso highlighted FUNAAB’s remarkable achievements over its 36-year history.
He noted the University’s recognition as the top agricultural institution in Africa and the 7th best globally, as well as its recent ranking as the 3rd Best University in Nigeria.
He outlined the 12 key strategies of the 2021-2025 strategic plan, which captured the University’s core priorities and values.
In a Lecture, titled “Capacity Building,” Prof. Oladele Talabi discussed the significance of strengthening skills, resources, and infrastructure to improve the University’s academic and research performance.
Prof. Talabi, the immediate past Director, Institute of Human Resources Development (INHURD), stated that capacity building was crucial for adaptability and success in today’s fast-changing environment.
The Workshop marked a significant step in FUNAAB’s ongoing efforts to drive excellence and innovation in agricultural education and research.
