Prof. Anthony Ndukwe of the NUC (Standing) addressing the University’s Management Team.

A team from the National Universities Commission (NUC) has visited the University to assess the level of the University’s preparedness to start its proposed programme in Mechatronic Engineering.

Members of the Resource Verification team were Mr. Abraham Chendersu, Professor Abraham Odukwe and Professor T. Ibiyemi.

In his welcome remarks, the Director, Academic Planning, Professor Adekojo Waheed expressed appreciation to the NUC team for the visit, which he said would help put the University on the right track for the take-off of the Department in the College of Engineering.

He revealed that the University had worked towards beginning the programme about two years ago but as it was the usual practice in the FUNAAB to follow due process, it was yet to admit any student into the Department.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Oyewole, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Development, Professor Felix Salako, disclosed that not many Universities in the world offered Mechatronic Engineering and that the University was prepared to be one of the few to do so with a view to repackaging the youths for the future.

Professor Oyewole disclosed that the University had engaged experts in the field and had put in place, academic resources and teaching facilities, promising that the advice and suggestions from the NUC team would be useful.

On behalf of the NUC team, Professor Anthony Odukwe, commended the University for its beautiful landscape, conducive environment and for the initiative in developing the new programme which he said is very appropriate for an agricultural University.
