In a bid to facilitate the smooth take-off of the newly established Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences, Abeokuta (FUMMSA), key stakeholders from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) and FUMMSA, today, July 30, 2025, held a strategic meeting to fine-tune preparations ahead of the National Universities Commission (NUC) Verification Exercise scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, July 31, 2025.

The Vice-Chancellor of FUNAAB, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, was represented at the meeting by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Olukayode Akinyemi, who warmly welcomed the FUMMSA Team led by its Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Fatiu Arogundade, accompanied by some of the institution’s Frontline Officers.

Prof. Akinyemi, while acknowledging the presence of the participants, expressed appreciation for their commitment. He noted that the meeting was convened to ensure proper coordination and preparedness for the NUC visit, as well as to discuss operational strategies for the interim hosting of FUMMSA by FUNAAB.

During the interactive session, stakeholders from FUNAAB, including the Deans of the College of Biosciences (COLBIOS), Prof. Iyabode Kehinde and the College of Physical Sciences (COLPHYS), Prof. Adio Akinwale, the Director of the Institute of Communication and General Studies (ICGNS), Prof. Remi Aduradola and other Academic staff, raised critical questions regarding academic structure, admission processes, teaching modalities, and the logistics of laboratory practicals for incoming students.

In his remarks, Prof. Arogundade emphasised the significance of the upcoming NUC verification, noting that its outcome would determine FUMMSA’s next step, particularly in securing programme listing on the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) portal to commence student admissions.

He assured stakeholders that staff engagement would be robust and rewarding, revealing plans to appoint Adjunct Lecturers and Demonstrators with competitive remuneration. According to him, liaison offices would also be set up to handle student-related enquiries effectively. At the same time, FUMMSA staff would work collaboratively with FUNAAB personnel to ensure seamless academic and administrative operations.

Prof. Arogundade also disclosed that FUMMSA’s admission and registration portal was being developed in collaboration with the Ag. Director of FUNAAB’s Directorate of Information and Communication Technology Services (DICTS), Mr. Temitope Soretire. He expressed gratitude to FUNAAB for the provision of one of its lecture theatres for FUMMSA’s initial academic activities, describing it as a testament to inter-institutional support and synergy.

In his closing remarks, Prof. Akinyemi urged all concerned FUNAAB staff to be present and fully prepared for the NUC Verification Exercise. He specifically directed the Deans to mobilise their Technologists and Laboratory Assistants to ensure that the laboratories were adequately set up and ready to meet verification standards.
