The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has once again reaffirmed its leadership role in sustainable agriculture under the transformative leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, as the Directorate of University Farms (DUFARMS) today, September 10, 2025, commenced another round of massive sales of freshly harvested yams and other farm produce at AGROMART.

Declaring the sales open, the Vice-Chancellor restated his administration’s commitment to revitalising agriculture within the University, noting that DUFARM’s consistent breakthroughs reflect FUNAAB’s innovative drive at ensuring food sufficiency within its area of influence. He described the initiative as a “practical demonstration of food sufficiency and national development driven by innovation, dedication, and strategic support.”

Prof. Kehinde, therefore, assured the public of fairness in pricing, stressing the unmatched high quality and nutritional value of the produce. He highlighted other successful outputs from DUFARMS, including groundnuts, vegetables, eggs, frozen chicken, and other food items, further underlining the University’s capacity to provide food security solutions.

The Vice-Chancellor also disclosed that the University was strengthening partnerships with the private sector to expand cultivation and open up more of its arable land for agricultural ventures, with encouraging results already visible across campus.

Earlier, the Ag. Director of DUFARMS, Dr. Emmanuel Bankole, commended the Vice-Chancellor and the University Management for creating an enabling environment that has sustained the Farm’s productivity. He revealed that DUFARMS currently boasts over 10,000 tubers of white yams and 5,000 tubers of water yams, in addition to eggs, garri, groundnut, sweet potatoes, and other produce.

According to him, DUFARMS’ product diversification has reinforced FUNAAB’s position as a model institution in sustainable agricultural practices, ensuring affordability, accessibility, and quality for both the University Community and the wider public.

With sales expected to continue while stocks last, DUFARMS’ latest initiative has further positioned FUNAAB as a national leader in agricultural revitalisation, food production, and community impact.
