… Provides Enhanced Security, Welfare Measures

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has commenced its Second Semester Examinations for the 2024/2025 Academic Session, covering both regular courses and the Farm Practical Year (FPY). In line with its tradition of excellence, the University has introduced several innovations to ensure a smooth, secure, and student-centred examination process.

According to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Olukayode Akinyemi, the examinations progressed seamlessly, with strategic upgrades designed to enhance efficiency and security. A notable development was the issuance of high-quality, globally benchmarked ID cards to 100-level students to improve identity verification. According to him, this was complemented by the deployment of ID card readers at examination venues to curb impersonation and promote orderly conduct.
To provide a conducive environment, the University has improved infrastructure at examination centres by installing hundreds of bulbs and halogen lamps, while standby generators have been serviced to guarantee uninterrupted power supply. In addition, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, said that awareness campaigns were conducted before the exams to educate students and staff on updated rules regarding examination misconduct and dress codes.

In anticipation of health-related issues that may arise during the examination period, he noted that the University has positioned health officers and ambulances strategically across campus. “We have standby health teams either stationed at examination venues or at the University Health Centre to provide swift medical attention to any student in need,” Prof. Akinyemi affirmed.
He emphasised that all these efforts aligned with the vision of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, who has been deeply committed to entrenching excellence and quality across all areas of University life, vis-à-vis Teaching, Research, and Community Service.
On logistics and coordination, the Director of the Time-table and Examinations Committee (TIMTEC), Prof. Pius Dada, disclosed that robust strategies were in place to address examination clashes. He said that students with overlapping courses were directed to the TIMTEC office for immediate intervention, including arranging both papers at a single venue. For cases involving a combination of written and electronic examinations (e-exam), the Chairman noted that priority slips were issued to enable students to take the written paper before proceeding to the e-exam.
Prof. Olusegun Idowu, Director of the Institute of Food Security, Environmental Resources and Agricultural Research (IFSERAR), credited the seamless examination rollout to a high-level committee comprising units such as Academic Planning, Information and Communication Technology Resource Centre (ICTREC), Student Affairs, and Quality Assurance. Prof. Idowu, a member of the Senate Committee on Examinations Results (SECOCER), explained that the committee built on insights from past experiences to adopt more efficient structures this semester.
Also speaking, the Head of the Quality Assurance Unit, Prof. Saliu Amolegbe, reiterated the University’s commitment to maintaining academic integrity. He noted that the Quality Assurance team was fully on the ground to guide students, monitor the conduct of the examinations, and ensure standards were upheld throughout the process.
Through these proactive measures and collaborative efforts, FUNAAB has continued to uphold its commitment to academic excellence, integrity, and student welfare.
