One of the distinguished Librarians on a middle level Academic Staff cadre at the Nimbe Adedipe Library of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Dr. Fauziyah Adenekan, has been appointed as the Head of Library, Owolabi University, Oke-Ila Orangun, Osun State.
An experienced Librarian and Information Scientist, Dr. Adenekan began her career at the Nimbe Adedipe Library in 2017 as an Assistant System Librarian in the Automation Department. She subsequently worked in the e-Library Section, Cataloguing Department, Wole Soyinka Library and the College of Biosciences (COLBIOS) Library at different periods, before serving as Head of the Automation Department from September 2025 to September 2026. Her experience across various Library units has given her broad expertise in Academic Librarianship, particularly Library Automation.
Dr. Adenekan holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science from Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the Institute of Data Processing Management of Nigeria, both obtained in 2008. She earned a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Studies from the University of Ibadan in 2014, followed by a Master of Philosophy and a PhD in ICT in Information Resources Management from Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, in 2023 and 2025, respectively.
A Certified Librarian with the Librarians Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN), Dr. Adenekan was registered in 2016 and is affiliated with several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Library Association, Nigeria Computer Society, Association of Women Librarians of Nigeria, Nigerian Women in Agricultural Research for Development, African Library and Information Associations and Institutions, International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions, Lagos Studies Association, Practical Artificial Intelligence Development Foundation, Wikimedia Nigeria User Group and Royal Statistical Society Nigeria Local Group. In 2020, she was also inducted into the League of Computer Scientists in Nigeria.
At FUNAAB, Dr. Adenekan has contributed to teaching, research and academic development through courses such as GNS 203: Use of Library, LIS 801: Foundation of Library and Information Studies and LIS 804: Theory and Organisation of Knowledge. She also co-supervises Master’s projects and has served as Secretary of the Academic Librarians, FUNAAB Chapter, and the Association of Women Librarians of Nigeria, Ogun State Chapter.
Her research interests include ICT in Library and Information Science, information user studies, Sustainable Development Goals, gender and cultural diversity, with 17 publications in reputable journals to her credit. She was also honoured with a Certificate of Appreciation by the Nigerian Library Association, Ogun State Chapter, for her teamwork and commitment to the successful hosting of the first NLA Evidence-Based Virtual Workshop in 2021, themed “Remote Information Services Delivery During and Post-COVID”.
Congratulating Dr. Adenekan, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, described the appointment as a significant recognition of her professional competence, dedication and contributions to the Library and Information Science profession. He said her elevation was a source of pride to FUNAAB and a reflection of the quality of professionals being nurtured and developed by the University. He expressed confidence that she would bring the same commitment, expertise and innovative spirit to her new responsibility at Owolabi University.
The Vice-Chancellor wished her success in her new role, urging her to see the appointment as an opportunity to further demonstrate her leadership capabilities and contribute meaningfully to the development of Owolabi University. He assured her of the goodwill and best wishes of the FUNAAB community as she embarks on this new professional journey.
Meanwhile, the appointment marks another milestone in Dr. Adenekan’s career, emphasising the value of the expertise and experience she has acquired through her years of service at FUNAAB.
