The Management of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has reiterated the mandatory use of official University email addresses for all correspondence with the National Universities Commission (NUC).
The directive follows a circular issued by the Commission, in line with the Federal Government’s Information Technology policy as stipulated by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in its Framework and Guidelines for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Adoption in Tertiary Institutions, 2019. Specifically, Section 11.3 on Electronic Mail Service mandates the use of institutional email systems for official communication.
According to the circular, all correspondence from universities to the NUC must be conducted strictly through official institutional email domains ending in “edu.ng.” Examples of such addresses include vc@university.edu.ng, registrar@university.edu.ng, and dap@university.edu.ng.
The University Management, therefore, urges all designated staff to comply fully with this directive, noting that the NUC would no longer recognise or respond to communications sent from private or non-institutional email addresses.
The new policy takes effect from April 1, 2026, and is aimed at enhancing the security, authenticity, and professionalism of official communications between universities and the Commission.
Staff members are advised to take note and ensure immediate compliance.
