The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has lost one of its finest scholars, Prof. Ibiyemi Olasunbo Olayiwola, a renowned academic and expert in Human Nutrition.
Prof. Olayiwola, who until her passing was a respected member of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, College of Food Science and Human Ecology (COLFHEC), died on the evening of Friday, June 20, 2025.
A distinguished nutritionist and dedicated educator, she was one of the pioneering members who played a vital role in the establishment and development of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics in FUNAAB. Her scholarly contributions and mentorship helped shape generations of students and professionals in the field.
In recognition of her expertise and academic excellence, Prof. Olayiwola delivered the University’s 82nd Inaugural Lecture titled “Nutrition in the Evening,” a thought-provoking discourse that reflected her deep insights into human nutrition and public health.
Reacting to her death, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, expressed profound sadness over the loss, describing her as “a trailblazer, a gentle spirit, and a committed scholar whose legacy would forever resonate within the University and beyond.” He extends his heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, colleagues, and students of Prof. Olayiwola.
Burial arrangements would be announced by the family in due course.
