The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has taken a bold step towards advancing agricultural revitalisation by formalising strategic partnerships with two major agricultural firms, Ten Power Farms and Zino Agritech Ltd. The collaboration was sealed through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, marking a pivotal move towards sustainable agricultural development and strengthening industry-academia synergy.

Under the agreement, Ten Power Farms has been granted 500 hectares within FUNAAB’s premises for integrated farming operations over an initial 10-year period, with provisions for renewal, while Zino Agritech Ltd. secured 1,000 hectares, to be allocated in phases, for large-scale cassava production and processing into high-value derivatives such as cassava starch, flour, and sorbitol.

Beyond land allocation, the partnership also established a robust framework for collaborative research, knowledge exchange, and student training. FUNAAB would provide academic and technical expertise to support best agricultural practices, while the firms would bring in industry experience to enhance learning and innovation. The agreement also outlined a revenue-sharing structure, ensuring mutual benefits while promoting the long-term sustainability of the initiative.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor emphasised FUNAAB’s commitment to bridging the gap between research and practical application, highlighting the partnership’s role in enhancing food security, driving economic growth, and providing students with hands-on experience in modern farming techniques.

Responding, the Chief Executive Officer of Ten Power Farms, Mr. Lanre Adedokun, described the collaboration as a transformative initiative that aligned with Nigeria’s drive for agricultural self-sufficiency. He commended FUNAAB’s dedication to fostering partnerships that drive innovation and sustainable development.

Similarly, Mr. Ayodeji Olomojobi, CEO of Zino Agritech Ltd., reaffirmed the company’s commitment to responsible land management, environmental sustainability, and strict adherence to global best practices in agrochemical use.

By solidifying these strategic collaborations, FUNAAB has reinforced its position as a trailblazer in agricultural research and development, furthering its mission to drive excellence, innovation, and sustainable agribusiness through industry partnerships.
