The University has concluded the screening of 3,228 candidates, for the 2012/2013 Academic Session admission for fresh students.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Professor Toyin Arowolo disclosed this in an executive chat with FUNAAB Bulletin.
Professor Arowolo gave the breakdown of the total number of candidates screened for the Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination as 3,008 while the Direct Entry candidates were 220.
He stated that the exercise, which began last week Thursday, ended successfully on Saturday for the first batch while the second batch will hold immediately after the completion of the first batch exercise.
Providing an insight into the composition of the Panel that screened the candidates, Professor Arowolo hinted that “we have a 7-member Screening Panel in each of the centres. They are made up of eminent and dedicated Professors and professionals”.
He stressed that “On each of the Panel, we also have external members who are mostly from Faculties of Education and Departments of Guidance and Counselling. We called them External Resource Persons because they are renowned experts in Education and Guidance and Counselling”.
Professor Arowolo further revealed that “The External Resource Persons, who are seven in number came from the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria; University of Jos, University of Abuja, University of Ilorin, with two others, from the University of Lagos”.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, stated that the Panels also comprised of other eminent Professionals, whose identity, he refused to disclose for security reasons.
He explained that the work of the Panel was basically to check and ascertain the authenticity or otherwise of the credentials of candidates alongside other requirements.
Professor Arowolo added that prior to the screening, the candidates were expected to have paid the Acceptance Fee as well as the Computer Training Fee and that the chairmen of the Screening Panels were experienced Professors.
“I mean Professors of Professors from different universities. Besides, the Vice-Chancellor personally wrote to each member of the Panel to underscore the importance of their assignment”, he disclosed.
Professor Arowolo described the outcome of the exercise as satisfactory, while noting that there was still room for improvement.
