The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has been named among the tenable institutions for the 2025 TETFund Scholarship for Academic Staff (TSAS) under the specialised Universities of Agriculture category.
In a circular from the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Arc. Sonny S.T. Echono, FUNAAB was approved for postgraduate training in Agriculture, Engineering and Technology, Sciences, and Veterinary Medicine.
This follows TETFund’s earlier directive suspending the foreign component of the TSAS intervention due to scholar abscondment and rising foreign training costs. As a result, institutions were advised to prioritise local training. However, concerns over delayed graduation rates among local scholars prompted a review by the National Universities Commission (NUC), leading to the selection of institutions with strong Postgraduate programmes, including FUNAAB.
Effective April 1, 2025, beneficiary institutions must align their sponsorships with these approved universities. To further enhance postgraduate training, TETFund has also increased allowances for scholars and their Academic supervisors. Additionally, institutions must ensure TETFund-sponsored scholars undertake their studies full-time to facilitate timely programme completion.
