Preparations for the 41st Annual Conference and Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Fisheries Society of Nigeria (FISON), scheduled to hold at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) from October 26 to 31, 2026, have gathered momentum as the Local Organising Committee (LOC) intensified efforts towards the successful hosting of the national event.
At its meeting held today, July 31, 2026, the Committee reviewed the proposed budget submitted by the Editorial Subcommittee alongside the draft programme of activities, with emphasis on prudent resource allocation, effective planning, and the seamless execution of the conference.
Speaking during the meeting, the Secretary of the LOC, Dr. Sherifat Adegbesan, disclosed that all subcommittees would present and defend their proposed budgets, beginning with the Editorial Subcommittee. She noted that the exercise was aimed at ensuring transparency, accountability, and proper alignment of expenditure with the objectives of the conference.
Presenting the Editorial Subcommittee’s proposal, Dr. Oluwaseun Ojelade outlined the budget for the production of the Book of Abstracts and Conference Proceedings, technical session materials, multimedia equipment, refreshments for technical officials, reviewers’ facilitation, and other editorial activities. He also revealed that 119 Acceptance Letters had been issued to authors whose manuscripts successfully passed the review process, reflecting the high level of participation expected at the conference.
Members of the Committee commended the Editorial Subcommittee for the progress recorded while recommending a comprehensive review of the proposed expenditure. They emphasised the importance of ensuring value for money and maintaining high standards in the delivery of conference activities.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Prof. Festus Adeosun, stressed the need for the budget to align with the approved conference programme to guarantee efficient resource utilisation. Prof. Adeosun, also the Dean of Student Affairs, lauded members for their constructive contributions and urged all subcommittees to incorporate the observations raised during the deliberations into their revised proposals.
He expressed confidence that the commitment and collaboration of all members would culminate in the successful hosting of the 41st FISON Annual Conference and AGM.
