The Staff Football Team of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), on December 18, 2025, marked its 13th anniversary, with a colourful celebration that underscored unity, sportsmanship, and camaraderie among staff members.
The celebration featured a novelty football match played at the Sports Centre, which attracted staff, friends and supporters in an atmosphere filled with excitement and goodwill.
In line with the University’s identity, the team was divided into two sides which were the Tractor Team and the Planter Team, for the encounter.

The Tractor Team took an early lead in the first half through a well-taken goal by Nurudeen Sakariyau, drawing loud cheers from spectators. The Planter Team, however, responded with resilience and determination, equalising through a calmly converted penalty by Kunle Ariyibi following a foul in the box.
The match ended in a 1–1 draw, a result that reflected the friendly and balanced nature of the encounter. Despite the competitive display, the game was played in good spirit, with both teams exhibiting teamwork, mutual respect and exemplary sportsmanship.
Speaking at the event, one of the team coordinators, Mr. Victor Opakunle, expressed appreciation to the players, organisers and supporters for their sustained commitment, noting that sports and recreation play a vital role in promoting unity, wellness and cordial relationships among staff.
Earlier in his remarks, the Director of Sports, Dr. Samuel Olabanji, commended the Team for keeping the University’s flag flying, urging members to remain good ambassadors of FUNAAB wherever they go.
The 13th anniversary celebration not only highlighted the recreational life of the FUNAAB community but also provided an opportunity to recognise the collective efforts that have sustained the Staff Football Team over the years, reinforcing the enduring spirit of togetherness within the University.
