In readiness for the 2025/2026 academic session, starting on Monday, September 15, 2025, the Staff School of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), today, September 10, 2025, held its Annual Teachers’ Workshop to equip educators for effective service delivery and remind them of their core responsibilities.

The workshop, held in the school hall, featured a series of impactful lectures and addresses geared towards professional development and strategic planning for the new academic year.

Delivering the Opening Address, the Chairman of FUNAAB Schools Management Board and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Olukayode Akinyemi, commended the leadership and entire staff for their dedication and commitment to the school’s progress.

Prof. Akinyemi lauded the success of the 2024/2025 Academic Session Valedictory and Prize Giving Day, attributing the achievements and the safety of staff and pupils during the long holiday to God’s grace. He urged teachers to reflect on past experiences, assess the present, and strategically prepare for the future. According to him, “This retreat is very important. It must be taken seriously as it offers an opportunity to discuss, reflect, and plan effectively for the new school year.”

Earlier in her welcome address, the Headteacher of the Staff School, Mrs. Florence Alade, expressed gratitude to the Board Chairman and all participants for their presence. She emphasised the importance of the workshop, themed “Modern Trend in the Teaching Profession: A Yardstick for Effective Service Delivery”, encouraging teachers to embrace continuous learning to enhance teaching outcomes.

The first lecture, “Career Coaching, Guidance, and Mentoring Excellence: The Relationship and Relevance to Nursery and Primary Schools in Nigeria”, was delivered by Dr. Matthew Oose of the Career Services and Linkages Unit (CSLU). He underscored the pivotal role of teachers at the foundational level, stressing the need to nurture learners’ cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains. “Every child is unique. While not every learner will excel in the same areas, each has a talent that can be nurtured. What we fail to develop in a child early becomes difficult to build later,” he noted.

The second lecture, “Enhancing Teachers’ Attitude to Job Delivery”, was presented by Dr. Oladapo Elugbadebo of the Federal College of Education, Osiele. He described teachers as agents of change and nation-builders, urging them to be skilful, knowledgeable, and innovative. “The learners see you as ‘Mr. Know-It-All.’ You must not disappoint them. Seek knowledge, improve your teaching, and be innovative,” he charged.

The final lecture, delivered by Dr. Abdussobur Salaam, Deputy Registrar I, Senate and Admissions was titled “A University Principle of General Conduct and Regulations: A Case Study of University Staff Schools.” Dr. Salaam, also the National Vice-President and equally the Chairman of the Western Zone of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), emphasised discipline, professionalism, and adherence to institutional regulations as critical values for university-affiliated schools.

The workshop provided a vital platform for FUNAAB Staff School teachers to reflect, update their knowledge, and prepare for a productive and rewarding 2025/2026 Academic Session.
