In a strategic move to bolster communication efficiency and reduce calling costs drastically, the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), today, May 26, 2025, officially launched a Closed User Group (CUG) system in collaboration with Dodopho Consultancy, powered by Globacom.
The initiative, which formed part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), to the University, began as a student-focused project offering newly admitted undergraduate students and Environmental Officers access to free intra-group calls throughout the academic year, has now been expanded to benefit key staff members across the University.
Speaking at the launch, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, described the project as a forward-thinking communication model aimed at fostering collaboration, enhancing service delivery, and supporting operational excellence within the University. He commended Mr. Emmanuel Idowu, Chief Executive Officer of Dodopho Consultancy, for his generous contribution and commitment to advancing the University’s development.
As part of the expansion, the upgraded CUG system included 60 VoIP-enabled intercom devices, which were being distributed to Principal Officers, Deans, Directors, and other key administrative personnel. These devices allow for seamless and unlimited internal communication at a monthly subscription of N500 per month.
Presenting the Globacom CUG Voice Packages to the University Administration, Mr. Christian Obuseh, Team Lead at Dodopho Consultancy, emphasised the robust features of the system, including enhanced coverage across three major locations on campus, improved signal strength, and broader accessibility.
To ensure sustainability, a dedicated CUG Office has been established on campus to provide technical support and address line-related issues. In addition, a comprehensive communication directory was being prepared for distribution to facilitate faster and more coordinated interactions among Colleges and Directorates.
With 109 lines already distributed to staff, the new additional 60 intercom units mark a significant leap in FUNAAB’s internal communication infrastructure, underscoring the University’s unwavering commitment to innovation, inclusivity, and institutional excellence.
