The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), through the Directorate of Academic Information Systems (DACIS), is set to host the second edition of its bioinformatics capacity-building workshop for Academic staff.

The One-Day Training programme is scheduled for Wednesday, February 4, 2026, by 10:00 a.m., at CAFE 2, ICT Building, FUNAAB. The workshop, titled “Introduction to Bioinformatics: A Multidisciplinary Field Combining Biology, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Statistics,” is designed to provide participants with foundational knowledge and practical insights into the rapidly evolving field of bioinformatics.

Speaking on the initiative, the Director of DACIS, Prof. Olusegun Folorunso, explained that the workshop forms part of the Directorate’s sustained efforts to strengthen the academic and research capacities of FUNAAB staff. He noted that the programme underscores the University’s commitment to promoting digital literacy, data-driven research, and interdisciplinary collaboration in line with global best practices.

The training would be facilitated by Dr. Adeyemi Adenaike of the Department of Animal Breeding and Genetics (ABG), College of Animal Science and Livestock Production (COLANIM). Participants are expected to explore key bioinformatics concepts, interdisciplinary methodologies, and their applications across diverse fields of study.

The workshop is open to all Academic staff from all Colleges of the University who are interested in integrating computational and biological tools into their teaching and research activities.
