The Federal Scholarship Board (FSB) has adjudged the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) and University of Ilorin as “the best among equals in the area of provision of necessary support for the success of the implementation of the Federal Scholarship Board Programmes”.
Besides, the Board also singled out the University Dean of College of Veterinary Medicine (COLVET), Professor (Mrs.) Morenike Dipeolu for commendation, describing her as a worthy ambassador of FUNAAB.
The representative of the Director of FSB, Mr. D. C. Onwusiri rated the University high even as the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Bandele Oyewole called on the Board to increase the number of foreign scholars posted to the University.
Addressing the 2nd Edition of the Orientation/Acculturation Programme organized by FSB in collaboration with FUNAAB for all scholars under Nigeria Commonwealth, and Bilateral Education Agreement Scholarship; and FUNAAB Foreign African Scholarship Scheme (FUFASS), Onwusiri said FUNAAB and UNILORIN stood out among others in the area of prompt returns on scholars and robust welfare package for foreign scholars.
He pointed out that the choice of FUNAAB was necessitated by the “pride of place” it gave internationalization of education.
Onwusiri expressed gratitutde to the University Dean of College of Veterinary Medicine (COLVET), Professor (Mrs.) Morenike Dipeolu for her services, describing her as a worthy ambassador of FUNAAB.
He charged scholars, drawn from African universities but studying in Nigeria’s Ivory Towers to take advantage of the progamme by participating fully, so as to have the desired personal social impact.
Speaking earlier, FUNAAB Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Bandele Oyewole called on FSB to increase the number of Foreign Scholars allocated to the University.
Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Development, Professor Felix Kolawole Salako, the Vice-Chancellor said that though Agriculture remains the flagship of the University programme, FUNAAB is now a conventional institution and as such should be so treated in the allocation of Foreign Scholars to it.
The University had earlier on Sunday organized a cocktail reception for the foreign scholars at Motion Ground.
