The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has achieved a significant milestone with the upgrade of its Communication and General Studies Department (CGNS) to an Institute, as approved by the Governing Council on August 20, 2024.

The development, announced by the Ag. Registrar, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Dawodu, marked a new era for the Department and the University.

The upgrade would enhance the career prospects of students, enable the Institute to offer specialised certificates and programmes, as well as facilitate professional linkages and collaborations, including strengthening the University’s reputation and academic standing. This has demonstrated FUNAAB’s commitment to academic excellence.

In a related development, the Governing Council has also approved the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between FUNAAB and the Institute of Security, Nigeria.

The partnership would provide valuable expertise and resources in security studies, creating new opportunities for students and staff, in addition to enhancing the University’s capacity to work with external professional bodies.

By expanding its programmes and capacity, the University solidifies its position as a leader in higher education and professional development in Nigeria.
