The University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Bandele Oyewole, has thrown his weight behind the establishment of the Water Resources Capacity Building Network Centres in each region of the country.
Speaking at the commissioning of the Southwest Regional Centre of the National Water Resources Capacity Building Network (NWRCBNet), situated in the University, Professor Oyewole described the development as a step in the right direction.
The Vice-Chancellor, who led the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources, Ambassador Godknows Bolade Igali and his entourage to the Centre, said the establishment of NWRCBNet by the National Council on Water Resources will help solve the low human capacity development in the water sector.
He, however, charged the leadership of NCWR to use the Network Centre “to target and seek the establishment of a state-wide information data base”, which he said was lacking in the water sector.
Prof. Oyewole expressed confidence that with the recently established UNESCO’s Regional Centre Category II in Kaduna, the Centre will play the role of partnering with the UNESCO Office in conducting training, research and dissemination of information.
The Vice-Chancellor added that the Centre will assist in the provision of potable water that will be affordable and available to all.
Professor Oyewole used the opportunity to request the Permanent Secretary to use his good offices to assist in the area of provision of a mini Dam for the University, which will serve as a good source of power supply.
He assured of FUNAAB’s readiness to collaborate with the Ministry of Water Resources towards realizing President Goodluck Jonathan’s Transformation Agenda and the determination of the University to provide the needed personnel that will train NWRCBNet students on Water Resources Management at the Centre.
