SDGs and The Impact Ranking: The FUNAAB Intentional Drive
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, were unanimously adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015. They represent a universal call to action aimed at ending poverty, protecting the planet, and ensuring peace and prosperity for all by the year 2030.
Sustainable development entails meeting present needs without compromising future generations’ needs. It is a collective responsibility that transcends boundaries, requiring engagement from all sectors of society worldwide, including institutions, governments, businesses, NGOs, and individuals.
The Times Higher Education (THE) University Impact Rankings are globally recognized performance tables that evaluate universities based on their contributions towards achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Through meticulously calibrated indicators, THE offers comprehensive and equitable assessments across four main areas: Research, Teaching, Stewardship, and Outreach.
At FUNAAB, the Thematic Group has established a robust framework that encompasses all 17 SDGs to enhance the University’s visibility in national and global rankings. The University has diligently prepared for the 2024 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Impact Ranking by registering and submitting required documents, eagerly anticipating positive outcomes.
During this presentation, Engr. Professor Adeniyi Olayanju, FUNAAB’s Resource Person on SDGs, will explore strategies for integrating the SDGs into the University’s initiatives to enhance staff and student competencies. This includes knowledge impartation, skill acquisition, faculty collaboration, adoption of best practices, and publication of data and evidence.
All Staff and students are invited to participate.
