Agriculture thrives on timely and accurate information, crucial for decision-making in areas such as input management and market trends. In Nigeria, farmers face challenges in accessing such vital data, impacting productivity. However, the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into agriculture holds promise for addressing these issues and advancing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1, 2, 11, and 13 related to poverty reduction, hunger eradication, sustainable communities, and climate action respectively. In summary, AI offers Nigeria the opportunity to boost agricultural productivity, uplift farmers’ livelihoods, and bolster food security.

In this webinar titled Harnessing Artificial Intelligence to Revolutionize Nigeria’s Agriculture Sector, our guest Prof. Olusegun Folorunso of the Department of Computer Science will delve into the following:

1. Understanding AI Fundamentals: Defining AI, exploring its applications in agriculture such as Smartsoil app development, and its implications

2. Leveraging AI for Agricultural Transformation in Nigeria: Tackling key challenges including low productivity, limited financing, inefficient supply chains, climate change, and inadequate extension services.

3. Strategies for Unlocking AI Potentials: Discussing investment in digital infrastructure, development of AI-driven solutions, capacity building, fostering public-private partnerships, while addressing data privacy and security concerns.

4. Exploring AI’s Role in Revolutionizing Nigeria’s Agriculture: from precision farming to livestock care, supply chain management and smart farming initiatives.
