The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has welcomed fresh students into the 2026/2027 Academic Session with a comprehensive Orientation Programme designed to equip them with the knowledge, guidance and information required to successfully navigate their academic and social life at the University.
The programme, which commenced today, September 14, 2026, would provide the new students with essential information on the University’s history, academic culture, rules and regulations, students’ welfare, financial procedures, accommodation, library resources, healthcare services and other aspects of University life.
Addressing the fresh students, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, welcomed them to FUNAAB and reaffirmed the University’s commitment to producing well-rounded graduates equipped to make meaningful contributions to society.
Prof. Kehinde emphasised the culture of discipline for which the University is known for, noting that FUNAAB’s reputation nationally and internationally was “second to none”. He urged the students to uphold the University’s values and conduct themselves responsibly throughout their stay.
The Vice-Chancellor also highlighted FUNAAB’s core mandates of Teaching, Research and Extension Services, encouraging the students to actively contribute to the attainment of these objectives while taking full advantage of the opportunities available to them.
He assured the fresh students of Management’s commitment to their welfare and academic success, noting that the University would provide the necessary support throughout their academic journey. He described FUNAAB’s responsibility towards the students as being in loco parentis, assuring them that the institution remained available to provide guidance and support whenever required.
The Registrar, Dr. Titus Adeniyi, who was represented by the Deputy Registrar, Mr. Samson Adeniran, took the students through the history, vision and mission of the University. He stressed the collective responsibility of students and staff in sustaining FUNAAB’s position as a leading institution of agriculture in Africa.
Similarly, the Bursar, Mr. Olukayode Osinuga, represented by Mrs. Margaret Omisope, enlightened the students on Bursary activities and financial procedures relating to students. He explained the approved payment methods and urged the students to verify the authenticity of payment channels before making financial transactions.
The Bursar also encouraged the students to take advantage of the instalmental payment structure for school fees provided by Management, as well as the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) student loan scheme of the Federal Government.
The University Librarian, Prof. Abayomi Owolabi, represented by Dr. Idowu Koleade, highlighted the range of library services and resources available to students. He encouraged the fresh students to make effective use of the University’s Library facilities to support their studies, research and pursuit of academic excellence.
The Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Festus Adeosun, cautioned the new students against negative peer influence, drug and substance abuse, urging them to build positive relationships and conduct themselves in accordance with the University’s rules and regulations.
Speaking to the fresh students, the Student Union President, Comrade Soga Oluwatimileyin, encouraged them to participate actively in intellectual and literary activities that would enhance their personal development. He, however, reminded them to remain focused on the primary purpose of their admission to the University.
Other speakers at the programme included the Director, Health Services, Dr. Oluseyi Anjorin, represented by Dr. Nasir Oyelekan, and the Deputy Dean, Student Affairs Division, Dr. Mathew Whetto, who provided further information on students’ welfare, health and successful transition into university life.
The Orientation Programme also featured performances by the FUNAAB Cultural Troupe and comedian Davinci, providing the fresh students with entertainment and an opportunity to experience the University’s vibrant cultural and social environment.
