The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has taken a significant step towards strengthening its position as a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship by hosting a delegation from the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Bank of Industry (BOI). The visit was part of preparations for the Federal Government’s Investment in Digital and Creative Enterprises (iDICE) initiative, aimed at boosting Nigeria’s digital and creative economy.
Welcoming the delegation, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde expressed FUNAAB’s readiness to collaborate with stakeholders in advancing entrepreneurial and technological innovations. He stressed the University’s commitment to equipping students with practical skills that align with global trends in digital and creative enterprises.
Speaking during the tour of the University’s facilities, the Director, Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies (CENTS), Prof. Emily Ayo-John noted that the iDICE initiative presented a valuable opportunity for students to transform their creative ideas into sustainable businesses.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Committee and the Head of the Department of Software Engineering and Information Systems, Prof. Olusegun Folorunso, welcomed the Team to the University, stating the University’s preparedness to handle the project.
During the tour, the Team was provided with comprehensive on-site information about the CENTS, which plays a vital role in training students in creative and digital skills. The Team witnessed first-hand the innovative projects being developed by students, reinforcing FUNAAB’s dedication to practical and hands-on learning.
The visitors also inspected the facilities at the Information and Communication Technology Resource Centre (ICTREC), in addition to the University’s 3MW Hybrid Solar Power Station.
Among the notable figures present during the visit were the Director, Directorate of Academic Planning (DAP), Prof. Olajide Sogunle; Ag. Director, ICTREC, Mr. Temitope Soretire; foremost Nigerian Cinematographer and a former Visiting Fellow at CENTS, Alagba Tunde Kelani, and several staff members of the University.
Meanwhile, FUNAAB’s commitment to innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development aligned perfectly with the objectives of the iDICE initiative. By fostering a culture of creativity and self-reliance, the University has been preparing its students to take advantage of emerging opportunities in the digital and creative sectors.
