A 500-level student in the Department of Electrical Electronics of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Mr. Akinwande Alaba has emerged as one of the recipients of the Arthur Peter Moller (APM) Terminals scholarship, meant for bright Engineering students in the nation’s ivory towers.
Presenting the award, the General Manager, Human Resources, Mrs. Teni Araba stated that APM Terminals, Apapa, Lagos had awarded scholarships to fifty, 400-level Engineering and technology undergraduates of some state and federal universities and had equally provided industrial working experience to ten beneficiaries.
According to her, the scholarship and industrial training programme were instituted as part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility, which seeks active community involvement in every location in which APM Terminals operate.
Mrs. Araba revealed that out of the 500 students tested by the company, Mr. Akinwande Alaba emerged among the best 50 students, after a rigorous screening exercise.
Speaking, on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Toyin Arowolo lauded the efforts of APM Terminals, for considering brilliant Nigerian students for the scholarship award.
Prof. Arowolo gave the assurance that students of FUNAAB would make the list of successful students for the award, next year.
Expressing his gratitude, Mr. Akinwande Alaba thanked God for His Grace, APM Terminals for choosing him among the best 50 students, out of the 500 that sat for the qualifying examination.
Highpoint of the day was the presentation of a N60,000 cheque to Mr. Akinwande by representative of the company.
