Out of the five candidates who contested for the highest position in the FUNAAB Students’ Union, Mr. Awosanya Kehinde of the Department of Water Resources Management and Agrometeorology, College of Environmental Resources Management (COLERM), has emerged the winner. Recently, he presented his manifesto and programmes alongside other contestants to the students’ electorate at the maiden Presidential Debate, organised by Top-Notch Writers Organisation in collaboration with the African Liberty Student Organisation, Future Savers Club, Idea Processing Nigeria, Tagwa Station and FUNAAB Juice.

Addressing the large turn-out of students, who thronged the Julius Amioba Okojie Lecture Theatre III venue of the debate, the aspirants promised to take the Students’ Union body to the next level as student welfare issues would top their priority.

When asked, “On what ground would you resign from office”, Awosanya Kehinde said he may quit the seat if his integrity was at stake, while Edunjobi Azeez promised to throw in the towel if his followers no longer trusted his leadership capabilities. Responding to the question, “how would you handle the situation if a negotiation with Management is deadlocked”?  Muritala Yusuf said he would consult with his constituency, before taking further steps even as Eniobanke Kazeem was of the opinion that negotiation remained the only tool to relate with constituted authorities

Other aspirants were Okewale Boluwatife and Edunjobi Azeez.. All the contestants agreed that consultation, consolidation and confrontation were the hallmarks of students’ unionism through which the symbiotic relationship between the Management and students could be sustained.

Present at the debate were the Dean, Student Affairs, Prof. Yemi Akegbejo-Samsons; immediate past Dean, Student Affairs, Prof. Femi Onifade; Dean, College of Agricultural Management and Rural Development (COLAMRUD), Prof. Bolanle Akeredolu-Ale and the outgoing FUNAABSU President, Comrade Tope Adesipo, among others.
