FUNAAMAA Awards Scholarships to Indigent Muslim Students

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta Muslim Alumni Association (FUNAAMAA) has awarded scholarships to indigent Muslim students of the University, as part of efforts to cushion the effects of the current economic challenges and support their academic pursuits.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT), Prof. Lateef Sanni who was represented by the President of FUNAAMAA, Prof. Mutiu Busari explained that the annual scholarship initiative was themed “Award of Scholarship to Indigent Muslim Students” for this year’s edition. He noted that the scheme was aimed at providing financial relief and motivation to deserving students facing economic challenges.

The BoT Chairman urged the beneficiaries to see the gesture as a source of encouragement to remain focused and dedicated to their studies, stressing the importance of giving back to others when they eventually become successful. He advised them not to view their present circumstances as a setback but rather as a stepping stone towards a brighter future.

In his remarks, the Chief Imam, University Mosque and former Chairman of the Abeokuta Chapter of FUNAAMAA, Prof. Idris Ayinde, congratulated the beneficiaries and prayed for their success. He admonished them to prioritise their academics in order to achieve their primary objectives on campus.

Prof. Ayinde also commended the contributors, both at home and in the diaspora for their generosity despite the prevailing economic challenges. He disclosed that the 2025 edition of the scholarship award followed a rigorous interview screening process, which produced a total of nineteen beneficiaries.

Similarly, the Chairman of the Abeokuta Chapter of FUNAAMAA, Dr. Amisu Ahmed, explained that the number of recipients was determined by the funds available, adding that 10 students received partially funded scholarships, while nine were awarded fully funded scholarships. He expressed optimism that subsequent editions would accommodate more beneficiaries, and appreciated all members who contributed to the success of the initiative.

Other personalities present at the event included the former Social and Welfare Director, FUNAAMAA Abeokuta Chapter, Mr. Raheem Yunus, and the Technical Secretary of the Chapter, Mr. Jamiu Adegoke.
