In celebration of the 2024 World Environment Day, the Green Oasis Workshop, in partnership with the Pan Africa Environmental Management Institute (PAEMI), and supported by the French Embassy in Nigeria, the United Nations University Institute for Water, Environment and Health (UNU-INWEH), Canada, and Wash for Her, donated twenty economic trees to the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB).

The initiative is part of a broader campaign to promote environmental management and sustainability.

During his Opening Remarks, Prof. Isaac Omoniyi, the Dean of the College of Environmental Resources Management (COLERM) at FUNAAB, noted the importance of collaboration and innovative action in creating a sustainable future.

He highlighted the Workshop’s theme, “The Green Oasis: A Climate Resilient Water and Land Preservation Initiative,” as a vision for resilience and hope amidst an increasingly unpredictable climate.

Prof. Omoniyi stressed the collective aspiration to preserve and nurture water resources and land ecosystems as crucial to adapting to a changing world.

He acknowledged the challenges ahead but called for determination and unity in achieving a climate-resilient green oasis.

He charged the participants to challenge their assumptions, push boundaries, and inspire each other to create a better world for future generations.

In his Keynote Lecture titled “Capacity Building for Sustainable Land Management Practices: A Panacea in the Wake of Climate Resilience,” Dr. Adetayo Aromolaran discussed the significant impact of human activity on climate change and crop yield.

He noted the economic downturn’s adverse effects, leading many to use charcoal pots instead of gas stoves.

Dr. Aromolaran encouraged participants to build the capacity to manage and adapt to climate change in their communities.

The event’s highlight was the donation of twenty economic trees, including soursop, avocado, guava, orange, and mango, to the University.

The event saw the attendance of key figures such as Prof. Jacob Olaoye, Director of the Agricultural Media Resources and Extension Centre (AMREC); Mr. Segun Okeowo, President of PAEMI, and Miss Itunuoluwa Ogunkoya, Founder of Wash for Her.

Others were Dr. Enovwo Odjegba, Programme Coordinator and Moderator, as well as Prof. Omotola Jaiyeola, among others
