The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun has approved guidelines for the preparation and presentation of Inaugural Lectures in the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB).
A release signed by the Chairman, Publications Committee, Professor Olasumbo Martins, informed that the culture of Inaugural Lecture, is part of the tradition of the University system intended to focus on the research activities of Professors in their areas of specialization.
Such Lectures are therefore expected to highlight the individual’s contribution to knowledge, emphasizing the depth of research, knowledge gaps and showing the way to further research.
The guidelines include:
Preparation of Inaugural Lecture scripts
The script should be produced in DIN A4 format, font 12 in Times New Roman and in double spacing. The Maximum number of pages is 60, inclusive of figures tables, and plates. Except the photograph of the Inaugural Lecturer, printing of the document shall be in black and white.
Submission of Lecture script to the Publications Committee
The prepared script should be submitted to the Chairman Publications Committee, not later than eight weeks to the date of the Lecture. The submission should include 15 hard copies and an e-copy.
The Lecture proper
The Lecture shall be delivered using the multi-media projector.
Duration of the lecture is 45 minutes. The Vice-Chancellor or his nominee shall read the citation of the Lecturer in the first 10 minutes.
The Lecture shall be devoid of issues capable of dividing the
audience; matters relating to religion, ethnic bias, gender discrimination, political and Union inclinations should be avoided.
The Procession
The Inaugural Lecturer shall be led into the Hall in a procession that
shall be led by the Vice-Chancellor or his nominee, the Principal Officers of the University and members of the academic community.
The procession shall leave the Lecture Hall in reverse order,
immediately the Lecture ends and the Lecture script handed over to the
Vice-Chancellor.
