Ex-FUNAABite Wins Prestigious Gamma Sigma Delta Scholarship

From the classrooms and laboratories of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Nigeria, to the global research community in the United States, the academic journey of Mr. Olanrewaju Binuyo is emerging as a compelling story of agricultural excellence crossing borders.

As a FUNAAB-trained Animal Scientist, Mr. Binuyo recently won the prestigious Gamma Sigma Delta Scholarship in the United States, adding a significant international honour to a career shaped by academic excellence, research engagement, competitive scholarships and international exposure.

Currently pursuing a PhD in Animal Science, specialising in Integrated Animal Health Systems, at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, USA, Mr. Binuyo received the scholarship on April 23, 2026, in recognition of his academic achievement, leadership and commitment to Agriculture and related sciences.

Gamma Sigma Delta, the Honor Society of Agriculture, supports outstanding students demonstrating academic excellence, leadership and commitment to advancing Agricultural Sciences. The recognition places Mr. Binuyo among emerging agricultural researchers preparing to contribute to the future of the discipline.

His international journey has its roots firmly in FUNAAB, where he earned a Bachelor of Agriculture in Animal Nutrition in 2012, and later completed a Master’s Degree in Animal Science (Monogastric Nutrition), in 2021. His education at FUNAAB provided the foundation for a research career that would progressively extend beyond Nigeria.

His FUNAAB training subsequently opened doors to highly competitive international opportunities, including the Novus Graduate Scholarship (NGS) sponsored by Novus Inc., USA, a global company specialising in Animal Nutrition. The scholarship was formally showcased at the 2016 Nigerian Poultry Show, where Mr. Binuyo emerged with two other graduate researchers from FUNAAB.

The Novus scholarship became another defining milestone in a journey that has continued to gather momentum. His academic progression also included international research exposure at the University of Missouri, further broadening his scientific experience and connecting his Nigerian training with global research environments.

Today, his doctoral focus on Integrated Animal Health Systems places him at the intersection of animal health, agricultural productivity and contemporary scientific research, fields of growing importance as nations confront challenges associated with food security, sustainable livestock production and agricultural development.

From Abeokuta to the United States, Mr Binuyo’s trajectory illustrates the global possibilities that are synonymous with FUNAAB. His progression from Animal Science and Animal Nutrition at FUNAAB to advanced research in integrated animal health demonstrates the quality education acquired from FUNAAB.

For FUNAAB, the achievement adds another chapter to the University’s growing alumni story. As a specialised institution with a mandate of Teaching, Research and Extension Services, the University has trained professionals and researchers across Animal Science, Plant and Soil Sciences, Agricultural Engineering, Food Science, Environmental Management and other agriculture-related disciplines.
