The VC, Prof. Olusola Oyewole (2nd Right) delivering a sermon to the Congregation including top officers of the University at the Thanksgiving Service, held at Divine Heights Bible Church, recently.
Professor Olusola Bandele Oyewole, last Sunday, at a Thanksgiving Service marking his appointment as the University’s Vice-Chancellor gave a vivid details of how the Almighty divinely guided and led him to the exalted office, declaring “I had no agenda, I had no plan to become the Vice-Chancellor of FUNAAB”.
Professor Oyewole spoke while sharing testimonies of God’s goodness to him before scores of well-wishers of members of the University community, led by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Chief Lawrence Ayinde Olakunle Osayemi, who thronged Divine Heights Bible Church, Abeokuta, for the thanksgiving service.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, God had been revealing to him His divine plan to take him (Professor Oyewole) to greater heights, beyond his imagination since 2010 while serving at the African Union Commission, Addis-Ababa, Ethiopia.
Professor Oyewole disclosed that God spoke to him on five separate occasions between October and December, 2010 of his great plan for him, adding that he had no premonition that God was bringing him first to FUNAAB.
His testimony, “in 2010, I was serving at the African Union Commission in Ethiopia, Addis-Ababa. Between October and December of that year, I found that five good times, during my personal quiet times with God, I heard His voice”.
In those quiet-times, I will write down what God spoke to me. Let me tell you precisely what God told me. God said, “I am taking you to a height in life that you never thought you will ever reach and which your enemies never thought you will ever attain in life”.
He stressed, “Anytime God spoke to me, I will write it down. I will put the date and I will put the location. I didn’t understand the dimension of what God was telling me”.
Testifying further, Professor Oyewole, who is the General Superindent of the fast growing Church said that while God was preparing the Vice-Chancellorship of the University for him, devil was trying to truncate it by tempting him with more juicy offers from the African Union Commission.
The Vice-Chancellor revealed that as at the time of the visitation of the Almighty, he was being paid in foreign currency as salary, which was twice the monthly earning of a Nigerian Professor.
According to him, “But towards the end of that year 2010, the African Union came and said I have to start another project that will serve for another five years. The African Union was expecting me to be the leader of that project. They were expecting me to stay for another five years.
But from nowhere, God came again. He said: “my child, go home”. It was difficult to understand. I was earning a salary that doubled the salary of Professors in Nigeria. I was being paid in Dollars and God was telling me to go home. I obeyed”.
He stated further, “ So I came back to Nigeria. During that period that I came back to Nigeria. The African Union sent a letter to the Minister of Education in Nigeria and they copied my Vice-Chancellor, saying, “Send Professor Oyewole back to us and if he is not coming back, let him come and help us to negotiate with some agencies, especially, the government of Germany, on behalf of AU”.
“At this time, I did not know where God was leading me. Let me tell you that I have no agenda, I have no plan to become the Vice-Chancellor of FUNAAB. I was only ready to obey God and do whatever he asked me to do. When the advert for the office of Vice-Chancellor came out, God spoke to me again saying this position, go and apply for it”, he added.
Concluding, Professor Oyewole pointed out that he became the Vice-Chancellor because he obeyed God and more importantly, because the Almighty had ordained it.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed confidence that he cannot fail in office because he has the backing of God.
The Thanksgiving Service was graced by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Chief Lawrence Ayinde Olakunle Osayemi, Principal Officers, Deans and Directors, former University Librarian, Mr. Abayomi Agboola, and the renowned Motivational Speaker, Engineer Bidoun Fijabi.
