… As Muslim Community Fetes Him

With a passionate voice that depicted humility and strong determination for success, the new Vice-Chancellor and professor of Agronomy, made the plea at a Thanksgiving Reception organized in his honour by UNAAB Islamic community, recently.

Professor Kehinde Okeleye, who was the immediate past Director of Academic Planning of UNAAB, while speaking at the Reception, said the challenges of his new office were enormous, thereby necessitating the support of all associates and well-wishers.

According to him, “we need  assistance, especially from UNAAB authorities and the entire Community.  There is no way we won’t beckon on UNAAB because Yoruba adage says ‘the person who sleeps closest to you will be definitely hit when you are fast asleep”.

Professor Okeleye, who is a former Director of the Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme, (SIWES) expressed his strong determination to succeed, stating “the opportunity I had in UNAAB, especially to serve in various capacities has emboldened me to take over the challenges at Crescent University”.

He described Crescent University as a young institution that has been making giant strides within a short period of existence, adding that his appointment to manage the affairs of the institution came as a pleasant surprise.

Professor Okeleye, satirically referred, in the early 90’s, as the Course Tutor  for Crop Production and Protection (CPP) 201 and CPP 202, as “See Pepper Pepper” and “Compound Peoples Problem” by his former students, thanked the organizer, for “the big honour”, with a promise not to betray the confidence reposed in him.

Earlier in his Opening Remarks, the Amir of the UNAAB Muslim Community, Dr. Taofiq Mabayomije  Salisu, described Professor Okeleye’s appointment as being destined, with an assurance that Allah will see him through, not only to the next level but to greater heights.
