Cross-section of Participants from the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, at the Workshop
Lack of exposure to training on Information and Communication Technology (ICT), has been identified as the bane of human capacity development in the public service, particularly in tertiary institutions.
The President of Digital Bridge Institute, Professor Raymond Akwule, dropped the hint while addressing participants, which include top level staff of the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (UNAAB) at the just concluded Workshop on Advanced Digital Appreciation Programme for Tertiary Institutions, held at Digital Bridge Institute, International Centre for Communications Studies, Oshodi in Lagos.
Akwule noted with dismay that the growth of the nation’s public service had been stifled and stunted by some personnel who exhibit strong disdain for ICT.
According to him, the most disturbing is the development in tertiary institutions where the need for desired academic attainment of their personnel is being hampered by poor ICT appreciation.
Akwule however expressed joy that some committed institutions like UNAAB, have been training and retraining their staff on ICT as a way to improve on capacity development of personnel.
The Workshop which drew 150 participants from tertiary institutions across Southwest, Nigeria, exposed them to various aspects of ICT, especially the effective use of Excel for Admission and Computation of Result.
