The Institute of Food Security, Environmental Resources and Agricultural Research (IFSERAR) has organised a One-Day Pre-Retirement Seminar for staff of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB).

The Seminar, held today, October 2, 2024, at the Postgraduate School Auditorium, was aimed at equipping participants with essential tools and knowledge to thrive beyond retirement.

Welcoming participants to the Seminar, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde emphasised the impact of the Seminar, especially on staff who are closer to retirement.

Represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Development, Prof. Kola Adebayo, the Vice-Chancellor said the retirement plan was about planning for one’s business, health and other activities one engaged in after active service.

He noted that the Seminar would allow the participants to learn new things and guide their decisions after retirement.

Earlier, the Director of IFSERAR, Prof. Alaba Jolaosho, charged participants to be attentive and participate actively by asking questions when necessary.

The Programme Leader, Aquaculture and Fisheries Unit, at IFSERAR, Prof. Bolatito Ikenweiwe, in her address, highlighted the importance of sustainable farming, which helps to minimise external inputs.

She advised that one should not wait till the end of his career, adding that the plan for retirement starts from the day one gets his Employment Letter.

Participants were enlightened on Financial Literacy by the Guest Speaker, Dr. Femi Awoyomi, a Banker and financial expert, who emphasised developing multiple income sources and financial education.

Other speakers at the event such as retired Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr. Wesley Oshun; Mr. Sanyaolu Adewale, the Group Sales Manager, Leadway Company; Prof. Iyabode Taiwo; Mrs. Hanah Odubiyi, Retired Deputy Director of Nursing and Barrister Olaolu Idowu-Agida, a legal practitioner all spoke on topics in their fields of expertise as it borders on retirement.

The Seminar provided valuable insights for outgoing staff to navigate post-retirement life successfully.
