The Institute of Food Security, Environmental Resources, and Agricultural Research (IFSERAR), Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), on February 26, 2025, held its first monthly seminar for the year.
Dr. Thaddeus Ariom delivered a thought-provoking presentation on “Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) and Safe Food Production.” He highlighted AMR as a growing threat to human and animal health, with far-reaching implications for modern medicine, food safety, and environmental security.
To mitigate these challenges, Dr. Ariom proposed the establishment of a robust AMR monitoring system, noting the necessity of promoting organic agricultural products as a sustainable alternative. His presentation, reflecting extensive research, sparked engaging discussions, insightful contributions, and critical questions from attendees.
The seminar was chaired by the Director, Biotechnology Centre, Prof. Olufunke Shittu, and marked the first since Prof. Olusegun Idowu assumed office as Director of IFSERAR in January 2025.
Among those in attendance were the Deputy Director, IFSERAR, Prof. Abiodun Adeola; Chairman, Seminar Committee, Prof. Sunday Adigbo; researchers and staff members of the Institute, including some students, and guests from the University community.
The IFSERAR Monthly Seminar Series provided a platform for disseminating research findings, fostering academic discourse, and generating valuable insights to advance agricultural development and food security.
